What personal data we collect and why we collect it

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Analytics

Analytics help us determine who our reader base are, what countries they are from etc. The data we have access to does not provide any specific location information about users. The majority of websites on the internet use Google Analytics to monitor their visitor country origins & how long visitors spend on pages, what they searched for to find our search result. This helps us better determine what content to produce. With a subject like music certain artists or bands were only popular in certain countries so knowing if we have enough visitors from that particular country is extremely useful & saves us from wasting our time writing articles nobody is ever going to see. Makes sense right!

Your data is not shared with any 3rd parties.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. This is to filter out the huge amount of automated spam comments received daily. It would require too many man hours to manually sift through and determine what are real comments.
